Red Hat, Inc., the world's leading provider of open source
solutions, announced that a number of organizations around the
world have turned to its massively-scalable infrastructure-as-a-service
(IaaS) solution - Red
Hat OpenStack Platform. Customers such as Algar Telecom, the
University of Adelaide and Vodafone Ziggo are using Red Hat OpenStack
Platform as their private
cloud platform to more efficiently use, organize and manage compute
resources.
With Red Hat OpenStack Platform, businesses can increase operational
efficiency, accelerate their ability to innovate, avoid vendor lock-in,
save money and standardize on a single scalable platform, while
enhancing software security and data privacy. Some innovators
benefitting from Red Hat OpenStack Platform include:
-
Algar Telecom, a leader for internet services in Brazil, was
looking to grow its customer base in the commercial space. To achieve
this, it needed to deliver innovative applications and services faster
while scaling its infrastructure more easily and quickly to support an
influx of new customers. Using Red Hat OpenStack Platform, Red Hat
Ceph Storage and Red Hat CloudForms, Algar Telecom has deployed an
agile private cloud infrastructure that is scalable and flexible,
making it easier to manage, provision and upgrade infrastructure and
resources.
-
The University of Adelaide, a research-intensive, Australian
public university, needed to provide staff and students with a
reliable foundation to deploy virtual machines (VMs) with storage on a
private cloud. After previously managing two OpenStack environments,
one specifically for IT developers and a separate environment for
researchers, the University was looking to consolidate and enable
developers to deploy applications with higher availability. Their
implementation of Red Hat OpenStack Platform running enterprise-grade
Kubernetes with Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform has given
them a single user interface with multiple availability zones. This
makes it easier for the University's developers and users to deploy,
manage and upgrade applications independently. The private cloud
platform also enables researchers to teach students critical
problem-solving skills necessary to deliver technology solutions
founded in real-world scenarios.
-
VodafoneZiggo, a leading Dutch communications provider that
delivers fixed, mobile and integrated telecommunications services to
consumers and businesses, wanted to build a competitive edge by
enhancing capacity and expanding its offerings. VodafoneZiggo
selected Red Hat OpenStack Platform as the open, scalable foundation
for its Virtualized Evolved Packet Core (vEPC) deployment, removing
its reliance on legacy technologies and adding capabilities to more
freely scale and innovate.
Continued focus to OpenStack innovation
As a major contributor to the OpenStack project, Red Hat continues to
focus on helping the community bring capabilities to bear to support new
enterprise workloads and use cases. With the latest OpenStack release,
Stein, this includes vGPU support for artificial intelligence (AI) and
machine learning (ML) workloads such as time series forecasting. This
enables many different business applications, from sales prediction
tools to manufacturing or labor planning services.
In addition, Red Hat's continual refinement of IT architecture is
helping to push OpenStack's bare-metal capabilities forward, as well as
the ability to distribute compute power for edge computing initiatives.
This can create a unified application and operations experience for
workloads, on one of the four footprints (public cloud, private cloud,
virtualized, or bare metal), across locations-whether a core datacenter
or dozens of small edge computing sites and the device edge.
Red Hat OpenStack Platform 15, the next version of Red Hat's massively
scalable Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) solution, will be based on
the innovations of the Stein release.
"A
highly-scalable private cloud foundation offers a smoother onramp to
hybrid cloud computing, which we help to meet with Red Hat OpenStack
Platform. Organizations like the Algar Telecom, University of Adelaide
and Vodafone Ziggo are able to empower their IT teams to innovate
through cloud-native technologies, backed by greater confidence that
they can expand, balance and manage the underlying infrastructure across
their datacenter with Red Hat OpenStack Platform." -- Sandro Mazziotta, director, Product Management, NFV, Red Hat
